Hi mamas! I’m Dominique, owner and CEO of Mom’s Advocate & Maternal Advisor (M.A.M.A.). As a black mother of three younggirls (ages 3 months, 2 and 4), I know firsthand how scary pregnancy, birth and the thought of motherhood can be. Often we lack the support and encouragement we need to have the type of births we desire. Often women embarking on their journey to motherhood feel unsafe, unheard and unsupported during their pregnancy and those feelings are often exacerbated after the baby arrives. An already scary time has been made terrifying by the effects of this COVID pandemic. I created M.A.M.A. to provide a safe space where women are heard and supported, and provided evidence-based information to help them make informed decisions and advocate for the care they want and deserve. At M.A.M.A., we offer a full spectrum of virtual services for women from their pregnancy through their postpartum experiences.
Since a very young age, I had a passion for mothers and babies and knew I wanted to work in the healthcare field. Though I have my Bachelors of Science in pre-medicine, I spent the last 13 years working in the field of education. While meaningful, that work is not fulfilling. After the birth of my second child, I began to yearn for deeper self awareness and realized my desire to do meaningful work in support of mothers and babies never left.
With all the heartbreak and uncertainty of 2020, I decided to launch M.A.M.A. I decided to stop putting my dreams on the backburner. I believe God created me specifically for birth work and to use my voice to advocate for birth justice. So, I decided to take the first step towards accepting my calling and to use my knowledge and skills to launch M.A.M.A.. As a trained childbirth educator, birth and postpartum doula, and a breastfeeding specialist, I’m fully committed to doing my part to help end this country’s black maternal health crisis. My vision to see nonjudgmental compassionate birth care services and equitable birth outcomes for all mothers and families is rooted in all that we do.
